[ We find Miya reaching the kitchen! Hank's in there, eating a sandwich with a long-pronged fork. ] * Miya peeks in. "Hello?" She blinks. Hank looks up. "Ah, hello, Miya! Please come in." He chuckles. "I was going to look for oyu after I finished anyway, so this is very convenient." * Miya blushes a little and enters. "Really? Um... why?" Hank forks another section of sandwich, and puts it in his mouth. He chews and swallows. "I was hoping to run some tests on your powers." Oh. ... Um, I'm just curious, but why are you eating a sandwich with a fork? Hank smirks. "I'm eating my sandwich with a fork because I don't like the taste of blue fur any more than the next guy." Oh. Um, okay. * Miya looks around again and her stomach grumbles a bit. She blushes, then scrambles to the fridge to find something to eat. Hank smirks. "I'm afraid we don't have much in the way of Japanese foodstuffs." Ah... it's okay. I'll find something. I think. * Miya peeks into the fridge. Miya finds mayo, mustard, lots of meats and cheeses... mmmm... sandwich. *_* * Miya starts making a sandwich, idly wondering if that's all the people eat here. ( It's what they eat for lunch, yes. :9 ) Hank finishes eating, meanwhile. * Miya finishes and munches on sandwich as she places the sandwich-making materials back in the fridge. So, um. What kind of tests are you going to make me take? Hank smirks. "Well, for the most part you'll stand around in a metal sphere while I bombard you with mostly harmless radiation." * Miya smiles weakly and has another bite of her lunch. "Mostly?" Hank chuckles. "A little scientist humor. Sorry." * Miya looks down at the floor. "Right. So, um. Will I be done in time for tag, maybe?" Hank blinks. "Tag? Oh, you and Kurt, right. It shouldn't take more than an hour, so I think so." * Miya smiles. "Okay." And then you'll know why I can do stuff? And why I can't teleport and run and balance at the same time? Hank nods. "Hopefully, yeah." * Miya finishes her sandwich. Okay. When do we start? "Right away, if you're ready." * Miya smiles nervously. "Ready enough, I guess." Hank nods. "This way, then." * Miya follows. Hank leads! Down the hall! Down another! To an elevator! * Miya follows to an elevator! ;P Hank pushes the 'down' button. "Most of the lab stuff's in the basement, see." * Miya nods. "Why?" "Because it's big and heavy, mostly." * Miya giggles. "Then wouldn't it be hard to get the stuff in the basement? "Nope. We build it there, see." Ooh. I guess that makes sense. The elevator doors open. Hank gestures for Miya to step in first. * Miya hesitates a moment, then does so. Hank gets in, and pushes a button. The doors close and the elevator descends. Hank whistles a cheerful tune. * Miya idly listens to the whistling as the elevator descends, trying to place the song. Miya FAILS. BWAHAHA! The elevator stops, and Hank leads out into a steal-lined hallway. He opens a door on one side and gestures Miya in. "This way." * Miya ums and heads in. Inside is a room with a door on one side. Hank opens to door and gestures to the metal sphere within. "Just sit in here. Any preference of music while you're being scanned?" Okay. And... not really. Hank nods. "Alright then. I'll just put on some Stones, then." * Miya smiles sheepishly. She doubts J-Pop is a common taste at the Xavier Institute. Yet, anyway. (Bwahaha.) * Miya nods and goes on in. Hank nods and shuts the door. The chamber fills with light, which begins changing hue slowly but constantly, and soon the music of the Rolling Stones come on. Hanks voice comes on, too, saying "I'll let you know if something comes up. Oh, and I have some magazines for you to read while in there, if you like." Okay. * Miya looks around at the different colors for a while, then goes to read some magazines while listening to the Stones. Why not? The magazines are mostly TIME and National Geographic. * Miya picks up an issue of National Geographic and looks at the pictures (as well as any articles that manage to catch her eye). These Stones people are pretty darned good. Miya finds stuff in there on a jungle in South America and some stuff on theories reguarding the origins of man. * Miya starts humming. Boring. But at least the music's fun. She switches to the other magazine. Hank's voice comes over. "Miya, if you could use one of your powers, now?" * Miya looks up. "Powers? Um, okay." She vanishes in a flash of light and reappears a few feet away. Miya stumbles, since she's standing on the inside of a big sphere. But she eventually regains her balance. "Excellent! Thanks." * Miya smiles sheepishly as she taps at the ground, making sure her footing's secure again. "Welcome." After a few more minutes, the lights return to normal. The door opens and Hank says "Alright, I think that's everything." * Miya puts the magazine back and goes over towards the door. "Can I come out now?" "Yup." And I can tell you how your powers work. * Yu-Mei shuffles the quotation marks to make that work better. Really? Cool! * Miya goes on out. "Yup. Haaave a seat." Hank gestures to one of the two chairs in the room as he says this. * Miya nods and does that. "Alright. Your balance and teleportation both work on the same power." Um, okay. So there's a way I teleport, and it's not just disappearing and reappearing? "Right. Now, both work by decreasing your density. In the case of your balance, what happens is that some of your mass in part of your body is sent somewhere else; apparently a pocket dimension, although I'd have to borrow equipment from Dr. Richards to be sure. This results in part of your body being lighter than the rest, and so you balance." "When you teleport, what happens is that instead of part of your body beign stuffed into some other dimension, your whole body goes somewhere else in this one." * Miya scratches the back of her head. "But, um. So... wait." Density's like weight, right? "Sort of but not really." Hank smirks. "If you want to know more about density and weight and such, I can make that the first lesson for tomorrow." I... guess. So you're saying that a part of me isn't there when I do... um, pretty much anything? That's kinda creepy. Hank nods. "The interesting part is that everything still stays linked together. So a part of you that's somewhere else still gets blood and such from the rest of you." * Miya smiles slightly. "I guess I'd notice by now if it didn't. So what gets moved?" "Nothing big. From what I can tell, it's something like every other atom, to pick a random example. Everything can still work, but that's still half your weight." Oh, I see. So I'd just be kind of empty. * Miya ponders that. "Half-empty, but yeah." So are those the only things I can do? "Now, the theoretical implications of this are pretty interesting. For one thing, if you get enough control over your density, you'll be able to float or fly, and maybe, just maybe, pass through solid objects." * Miya blinks. "Pass through solid objects? Wow." "If it turns out you can also *increase* your density, you might be able to make yourself stronger and tougher." "I'm not so sure about that one, tho, because in theory the extra mass would have to come from somewhere." * Miya nods and scratches at the back of her head. "Yeah. Stuff doesn't just show up out of nowhere, right? I think." Hank chuckles. "Nope. There's laws against that." But aren't things like reading minds and stuff supposed to be impossible, too? And they talked about it on the news... "Supposed to be, yes. I or Charles could explain how it works, but there's lots of big words and newfangled concepts involved." * Miya nods. "That makes sense. So when I, um, teleport, all of me is there and I can't balance." Hank nods. "Exactly. It takes time before some of you can slip away somewhere else again." How much, do you think? * Miya giggles. "It kinda sucks, really. My balance isn't so great compared to other people's, then, 'cause I cheat." Hank shakes his head. "No idea. A little less than a second, but that's still long enough to tip over." "Heh. 'Xactly. You're not used to balancing the old-fashioned way." Then... well, I want to learn! I don't like the idea of falling over just because I'm not used to doing it like everyone else. * Miya frowns a little, and you can almost see her trying to figure out what maneuver she can do that'll allow her to teleport, move, *and* keep her balance. Hank nods. "You'll be able to learn, in time. You'll have to master your powers first, but that can be done, too." How much time? "No idea. Some people master their powers a lot quicker than others. Some never quite manage." [ Session end! And then the mansion was attacked. But not really. ]
