[ The day after Miya and Wolverine agreed that Miya would be alowed to stay around in Japan and help out, Miya finds herself on a plane to America alongside Gambit, who graciously gave up the window seat. ] * Miya folds her arms and sulks. So not fair. (Ha! The window seat's the best one. ^^) Remmy frowns. "Look petit, I'm sorry, but I really do have to agree that that buisness in Japan's too dangerous for a chile like you." But he said I could stay! And what's a petit, anyway? It means 'little one'. An' I know he said that, but we learned somethin this mornin' that changed tings. * Miya blinks. What'd you find out? 'S not so much what as who. But ne'r you mind, petit. Don't 'never you mind' me! I wanna know. Remmy raises his hands in a placating gesture. "Fine, fine. 'S a guy... a thing, called Omega Red. Bad news on legs, no lie." Omega... Red? * Miya frowns, thinking that out. A color and... um... * Miya unbuckles and jumps to her feet. She climbs over Remy to get to the overhead compartment. 'Ey, careful, chere! * Miya actually stands on the arm rest for Remy's chair in order to reach the compartment, but even though she shoves it open and starts recklessly looking for her bag, she shows no indication of teetering or even adjusting her balance. What're y'looking for, petit? * Miya doesn't respond. She pulls down her duffel bag, nearly dropping it, but somehow doesn't. * Miya plunks it in the aisle and rummages through it and triumphantly pulls out a small dictionary. She rifles through it. Ah! Omega's a greek letter! The last one, even. Huh. * Miya tosses the Japanese-English dictionary onto Remy's lap. * Miya follows that up by tossing Hikaru onto Remy's lap, too. * Miya zips up the bag, climbs onto Remy's armrest (again), and shoves it securely into the overhead compartment. * Remmy picks up Hikaru and looks him over. Cute tiger, petit. * Miya slams the compartment shut and grins at Remy. "His name's Hikaru." Ah. Good name for 'im. * Miya laughs and climbs over Remy again, taking the dictionary off his lap. She buckles herself in. "Do you know what it means?" "Not a clue." * Miya calms and smiles. "Light." * Remmy nods sagely. In a thiefy cajun sort of way. I got him... um... when I was really little. * Miya blushes a little and looks at the ground. "I guess I shouldn't be so attached to him now. Kid stuff, right? I'm fourteen." * Remmy shrugs. "Nothin' wrong wit it." I dunno. I mean... I dunno. Then don' worry 'bout it. * Miya blinks and looks up at Remy (and even sitting down, that'd be way up). "Yeah?" * Remmy shrugs. "Yeah. Why worry 'bout what you don' know?" 'Cause what you don't know can kill you? Not like carrying Hikaru around is gonna kill me or anything. * Miya patpats the tiger on the head, but doesn't take him from Remy. * Remmy chuckles. * Remmy hands the tiger back. "Here you go, petit." * Miya grins and holds the tiger, buckling him in on her lap. "So why is the person after Logan-san named a color and a Greek letter?" * Remmy shrugs. "Don' know. Maybe the people who build him weren' very imaginative." And why did Logan-san call you... * Miya flips through the dictionary a little. "A chess opening or strategy?" * Remmy chuckles. "Gambit. Nickname I picked up." Oh. * Miya ponders over that, then looks up at Gambit with her odd brown-white eyes. "So you were the first to act?" * Remmy grins. "Most of the time, yes." Cool! How? * Remmy decides to change the subject. "So, have you ever been to de states before, petit?" * Miya blinks, but doesn't change the subject back. She shakes her head, deciding to pick at Hikaru a little. "No. I haven't even been to Tokyo before." * Remmy nods. "Ah. First time out of de country, den. But don' worry, I'm sure you'll do fine." I dunno. It's kind of scary. Well, yeah. New tings always are. * Miya nods and picks at Hikaru some more. Then the blurts out, "Are you sending me to see this Charles person 'cause of what's happening in China?" * Remmy frowns. "Yeah chere. Dat's part o' it. We don' know if other people'll take up the same idea or not." * Miya nodnods, still looking down at the plushie. "That's why Mom and Dad wanted me to leave home. 'Cause they were afraid I would get hurt." * Remmy tries to keep the sad look off his face. "'Course it was." And- and I went to Kyoto and saw my grandma, but I think she was angry at me. * Remmy nods and doesn't say anything, 'cause, y'know, not much to say to that. * Miya continues, not really caring if Remy's listening or not. "So I went to Tokyo, because um... it's Tokyo. I always wanted to go to Tokyo. And people aren't supposed to care if you look like a fr-" She bites her lip. "A freak." * Remmy frowns. "Do you think you look like a freak, petit?" * Miya sniffs. "My eyes're funny. Even with contacts, they're funny." * Remmy looks at Miya with his eyes - red iris, black everything else. * Miya fidgets, but looks up at Remy. She blinks. "Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or anything, I really didn't!" * Remmy chuckles. "Don' worry. 'M not too offended. Jus' think weird eyes don't qualify a person as a freak." Well, your eyes are cool! * Miya blushes and looks somewhere else. "Mine are just blank and white." Lots of people have that one, actually. Huh? Nothin'. You'll see when you get to Charles' place. * Miya ponders that, then decides not to press. "Okay." So... I'm going to school there? Right? Oi. And, um, other people go to school there. And they're like me? * Remmy nods. "Not everyone there is there for schoolin', but they're all like you an' me." * Miya considers, then tilts her head and considers some more. Are we going straight there? * Remmy shrugs. "Well, straight from de airport." ( I neglected to mention; this is a commercial 747 your're on. ^_^; ) (Yes, I know. ^^) * Miya pouts. "Oh, poo." * Remmy chuckles. [ At this point a stewardess comes out and announces that they'll be showing a movie soon. Since this isn't one of Brett's games, the movie will have nothing to do with Kirby. ] * Miya blinks and wonders if it'll have Japanese subtitles. * Miya then realizes that she can't even see the screen and sighs. [ She then goes on to explain, in Japanese, that non-english speakers can ask for headphones which plug into the arms of the chairs and profice Japanese dubbing. ) * Miya giggles at that. She can't help but giggle at that. [ Lastly, she states that there are booster seats available for children. ] Japanese dubbing. * Miya grins. Oh? Oh. This oughta' be good. * Miya nodnods. I'll listen to the dubbing if you listen to the English, and- aww, I'll have to get a booster seat. This sucks. After another, oh, 16 hours of this, Miya is sleeping. Gambit shakes her slightly. "Petit, wake up. We be there." * Miya just hugs Hikaru more tightly. "" she mutters in Japanese. * Remmy smirks and shakes Miya a little harder. "Miya, we're dere. We're in New York." * Miya tries sleepily batting Remy's hand away. Good thing about being small: You can curl up in a plane chair. * Remmy pokes Miya in the side. "Wakey wakey." * Miya yelps and snaps awake, the hand that was sleepily batting Remy's shooting down to her side to grab his in a surprisingly strong grip and yank it in a direction it probably isn't supposed to go. Ow! Owowow! * Miya blinks, then lets go to put her hands to her eyes. "" Wha? I didn't poke you that hard, petit. Nono, my eyes! Oh. What happened to dem? * Miya removes her hands and blinks a few more times. Her eyes are watering, and she immediately starts taking the contacts out. They said don't fall asleep with these in. I think I know why now. Ow. * Remmy winces. Do you have some shades to put on? * Miya removes them and blinks a few more times. Her eyes are completely white now. "Yeah. And, um... I guess these are getting tossed anyway." She shoves them in her pocket. * Remmy nods. "I'll get your bag down for you." * Remmy stands and does that. He can, since the plane has come to a complete stop. * Miya unbuckles and holds Hikaru carefully as she stands, peeking over the seats. The dictionary has been stowed away a while ago. * Remmy hands Miya her bag. "Good thing you pack lite, petit. We won't have to spend half an hour in baggage claim." * Miya unzips a corner and digs around, eventually finding her shades. She grins. "No fruits, no vegetables, no animals. Not even Pocky. ... I wonder if I can find Pocky here." * Miya wipes the tears from her eyes and puts the shades on, then zips up the bag and slings it over her shoulder. She carries Hikaru seperately, though. Depends. What's pocky? It's really good! You never had it? * Miya pushes Remy out to the aisle. Nope. * Remmy heads out into the aisle, out of the plane, and into the ramp. It's kind of like, um. A cracker. Or a biscuit stick. I don't know what you'd call it. But it's coated. With what? Usually chocolate, but sometimes stawberry, or coconut, or almond, or peanut... Huh. Sounds strange to me. Well, 'scept the chocolate part. It's really good! You're the strange one. * Miya sticks her tongue out at Remy. * Remmy leads down the ramp and glances around once in the lobby. "C'mon petit, this way." He leads Miya towards three people waiting in the lobby. * Miya follows, moving fairly quickly to keep up. [ One of these people is a tall, very pretty lady in her early twenties with long red hair. The other is a tall, handsome man with short brown hair and red shdes that gleam a little more than you'd expect. The last is a man who looks to be in his mid forties and is completely bald. This last individual is sitting in a wheelchair. ] (Oh, lookit the party crashers.) ( Hee. ) * Miya blinks at all the big people, then immediately makes herself unnoticeable. Behind Gambit. (At least Storm has a sense of humor! ;P) ( *snaps* Shoulda' had her here instead. And hey, Chuck and Jean aren't spoilsports. Scott is, but... ) (Hee. ^_^) (Yeah, but that's what makes Scott so fun. His feathers are easily ruffled.) ( Yup! XD ) Aww, c'mon, petit. No reason t'be shy. These here are friends. * Miya blushes. "But... um." She swallows and steps out from her hiding place, then bows. "Hello." The bald man smiles warmly. "Hello. You must be Miya." * Miya blushes more and nods. He extends his hand. "I am Charles Xavier, head of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters." * Miya blinks at the hand, then shakes it tentatively. "Nice to meet you." Charles keeps the smile up. "Welcome to America. Logan's told me that you're just the kind to be at home in my school. Come, we'll talk about it more once we're in the car." * Miya looks up at Remy. * Remmy nods. "Go wid 'im, chere. I'll be comin' wit you back to de mansion." * Miya bites her lip, then looks back at Charles and nods. Charles smiles again. "Very well. Oh, these are Scott Summers and Jean Grey, other students of mine." Jean and Scott each shake and introduce themselves. * Miya blinks at them. Aren't they a little old to be in high school? [ As if Charles read her mind (Gee, imagine that), he says "My school is for all grades. I believe there to be no end to learning." ] * Miya blushes. "Oh, okay." [ Charles nods. "Are you ready to go?" ] * Miya nods again. [ Charles nods again, and scots leads the wheelchair (it's an old style, not motorized) down towards the airports' entrance. Jean and Remmy follow, Remmy prompting Miya to come along. ] * Miya scoots to catch up, then walks along, staying by Remy. [ Before long, you all reach the entrance. An honest-to-goodness limo is waiting there. ] * Miya stares. [ Scott and Remmy help Charles into one of the back seats. Jean stows the wheelchair in the trunk of the vehicle. ] * Miya just stands and stares some more. After Charles is in the car, Remmy comes over, grinning. "What, petit, you've never seen a man in a wheelchair before?" No. It's just that... um. Yes? * Miya blushes. "Um. I've never ridden in one of those before." "Oh, a limo. Heh. Dis is my first time, too. I usually get around on my motorcycle." * Miya nods. "Okay." She bites her lip. "Do I have to go in a certain door or something?" "'Course not, petit. You can even sit up front with Hank if you want. He's prolly de driver." Um. No, that's okay. * Miya chews on her lip a little longer, then bites the bullet and gets in the limo already. * Remmy gets in after Miya. [ The limo is posh, but that's to be expected. There's a mini-fridge. And a television! ] * Miya looks around. "Sugoi," she murmurs, because her player doesn't feel like using brackets for a word she actually knows in Japanese. (*snicker*) Soon you're going down the road! Thanks to fortuitous timing, you avoid the worst of New York traffic and are soon driving through lovely wooded countryside. * Miya sits and looks out the window, clutching Hikaru. Wow, they really do drive on the wrong side of the road here. Charles speaks up. "Now, Miya. I understand that you believe you're a mutant." * Miya blinks and looks over at Charles. She hesitates a moment, then nods. Charles nods. "Logan told me that one of your powers is teleportation. Do you have any others that you know of?" I- um. I don't fall? Charles nods. "Well, that's something. Convenient, certainly." * Miya scratches at the back of her head. "And... I dunno what else is a power. Dad always said I had good reflexes, but I don't know if that counts." Charles nods. "There have been mutants with superhuman reflexes. But it's sometimes hard to tell what qualifies as superhuman there, and what's just excptional skill." * Miya looks at the floor and nods. "I should clear this with you right now; I am a mutant too. So is Remmy, as I believe he's already told you. So are Scott and Jean, and Hank, and everyone else that you are likely to run into at the School at the moment." O- okay. Remy kind of told me. "At the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, you will study normal courses, of course, but you will also learn more about your powers and how to use them. I will help you, as will all of us at the school." * Miya nods again. "So my teachers, will they be mutants, too?" Charles nods. "They will. I will be your teacher for some courses, and Hank is a highly educated fellow, too, despite his appearance. It will be a little less formal than the schooling you are used to, but I can guarantee it's quality." Okay. And... um. Are there uniforms? Charles chuckles. "No. There used to be, but we all decided against it some time ago. You may wear whatever you wish." * Miya blinks. "Really? Cool." Charles nods. "You will also be able to decide on your own class times, as well as to what you wish to study, to a certain extent." * Miya considers and nods again. "Do you have any questions?" Where am I gonna stay? And, um... what about my green card? * Miya blinks, almost dazedly. "I never got a passport." She looks over at Remy. * Remmy waves dismissively. "Don' worry 'bout dat, petit. We can take care of it." Are you sure? I don't wanna be too much trouble. Charles nods. "It is no trouble. We can get you a student visa, and then you can study for your citizenship. You will be staying at my mansion." * Miya nods and hugs her plush some more. "Okay. Can I call Mom and Dad and let them know I'm okay?" Charles smiles. "Of course." * Miya smiles with relief. "Okay." A sonorous voice comes over the speaker. "Professor? We're home." * Miya blinks and looks around for the voice. "That's jus' Hank, petit. Don' worry." The car pulls to a stop! And the GM ends the game, 'cause it's getting late. z.z
