[It's still the cafeteria!] [The girl looks around, bewildered, and eventually makes her way to the only mostly empty table in the cafeteria. That'd be Krista's.] * Krista continues to eat and munch. With nobody to pay attention to, her eyes wander back to the calculus book, which she soon flips a page in. She seems slightly down... [She sits at the opposite end, on the opposite side, and sets her books down.] (Those long rectangle tables with bench seats.) * Krista looks down the table at her. And her books. Does she have familiar books? [Nothing with a Christian bent, but she has some textbooks Krista'd probably be familiar with. She's in Calculus. Actually, she has the same Calculus book.] * Krista uses one arm to drag her food along and another to pull her book bag along, closing in on the girl like a nerd-shark. [She fears the nerd shark! Actually, she's pulling out her own bag lunch.] * Krista gets close enough for attack and then speaks up, "Ah... hi. I... saw those guys, but I couldn't get up fast enough to help." Beat. "I'm sorry." [She looks up. "Uh? Oh, hi. It's okay." She sounds like she means it.] * Krista shakes her head and says, "No, it's wrong." Beat. "I'm Krista Larson." Junior. I'm in Calculus too. ["Oh." She smiles nervously. "Um, Tabitha Meyers. But, uh, Tabby works. I'm a Sophomore, and yeah."] [Tabby pulls out her lunch! It's crackers, sliced cheese, sliced pepperoni, and an orange.] * Krista 's eyes widen. "Wow, Calculus AB... that's great." She pays more attention to her lunch, picking up her sandwich, then asks, "Are you new this year, or...?" [She starts assembling little cracker sandwiches with almost insane care. "Yeah, I used to go to a private school."] * Krista nods. "Oh? Which one?" *bite-chew* ["Um." She doesn't look too eager to say the next part. "IMSA."] (Illinois Math and Science Academy.) (They regularly troll for the best and brightest in the state. Krista'd know, I think.) * Krista smiles. "Wow. That's great." She pauses, then says, "I was more interested in singing... Mrs. Schroder, here, is a really good vocal coach." Small smile. "Which doesn't mean I ignore math and science..." [Tabby starts eating a cracker sandwich now that they're all assembled and arranged in neat little rows. She looks at Krista. "Really? I'm not any good at singing."] * Krista nods. "I'm really an art person. Choir and Art and everything. Because I like them." A small weak laugh, then "If you're in advanced classes... are you in Physics B too?" [She nods, then she brightens. "Oh, are you? Maybe we have the same classes."] ["I'm not really good at any of that stuff," she continues. "I mean, art and things. Just numbers." She grins. "Like writing? Can't really do it. But I can diagram a sentence."] * Krista smiles a little, then ticks off her schedule, "AP Calc B first period... then AP Physics B sixth. and AP History 7th... and the rest is all Junior stuff or Choir and Art." [She chews and swallows before saying, "I think I have the same Calculus and Physics classes." She glances at the clock, then eats faster.] ["You want one of these? They're really good. I made them myself." For some reason, she doesn't seem to quite realize the inherent joke there.] * Krista shakes her head. "Thank you, no." She looks at her not completely eaten lunch. "I have plenty to eat myself and it's been a... strange lunch period." [She picks up a cracker sandwich that made a corner. "I'm sorry if I made it strange," she says before eating it.] Oh! No, it wasn't you. That wasn't your fault... people aren't always nice and Christian around here. ["Oh." And then she laughs. "Well, I'm one of the two? I think."] * Krista smiles a little and takes another bite. Sandwich. Yay. [Tabby keeps eating! She's not reading. This might be a first for her, but who knows?] ( Aha, someone smart who I can potentially convert!) (It'll happen eventually.) * Krista looks at the book again, reading a bit more! And eating. Woo. [Tabby eats in a hurry! Then she pulls out the orange, which is already peeled. She starts pulling it apart and eating that, too, glancing at her watch.] * Krista glances at Tabby, then back at the book before she mms and mumbles, "All about slopes..." [Tabby finishes off her orange in short order and gets up. "Do you have anything to throw away?"] * Krista blinks, then says, "Ah... my banana peel... if you're getting up, anyway?" She offers it to the girl. ["Sure." She takes it. She doesn't trip on it! And she goes to throw her wrappers and bag and Krista's banana peel away.] * Krista starts to gather things up too, because, hey, time. [Tabby returns and gathers her books, too. The period's about half over.] (Well, aren't lunches half-period?) (Your lunch is, because you've got an AP class!) (I always hated that. Now is the suffering.) ["So... you know where room 214 is?"] * Krista picks up her book bag and nods, smiling. "Sure I do." ["Oh, good." Tabby looks relieved. "I didn't get a chance to walk the school before it started." She heads to the doors out.] * Krista follows her and smiles. "Well, you'll learn it in no time, I'm sure." [Session End!]
